Innsbruck v Vorarlberg

Innsbruck – 66

Vorarlberg – 12

24th October 2026 – Innsbruck retain the West Austria Cup against a brave Vorarlberg side.

On a beautiful autumnal day, with a chill in the air, RCI hosted our fellow Austrian rugby Exiles Vorarlberg at Sieglanger. Yet another quick start for the Mountainboys as Bailey rolled over from a maul within the first 5 minutes, Josh adding the extras for a quick 7-0 lead. Guest writer Train Spot then barreled over, leaving multitudes of tacklers in his wake to make it 14-0.

Indiscipline from RCI lead to a period of pressure on the RCI line, and it eventually told as the visitors got on the scoreboard from short range.

4 more first half tries were to follow for RCI though, with Moritz, Luis, Matteo and Josh scoring – and the 4th of these was a stormer from long range, Josh finishing off after an infield from Soso. Half time came, with RCI leading 42-7.

Right after the break Omar crossed to make it 47-7, and this is when the game was officially forfeited by Vorarlberg – to their great credit, the 13 players they arrived with dropped down to 11 with injuries, and so the remainder of the game was a friendly with some RCI boys volunteering to pull on the blue and pink.

This wasn’t the end of the action however, Sadegh with a beauty from long range, Luis and Espo also crossing. The game concluded with the visitors crossing from a tap penalty despite their beleaguered numbers to give us a final score of 66-12.

Huge credit to Vorarlberg for the fight and effort shown, and for making a good tough day at the office.

Next up for the Mountainboys is a HUGE cup game at home to Wachau/Linz on 31st October, if you’re around that day any support is greatly appreciated, with our neighbours TGS opening the clubhouse and bar upstairs for the occasion.
