19th September 2026 – The Mountainboys returned to action on Saturday with a hard-fought win against a game Regensburg side at Sieglanger.

RCI started hot right out of the gates, Jack dotting down within the first minute after a show and go but it was clear that would not be the pattern of the whole day. Regensburg hit back mid-way through the first half with a penalty goal after a long period of pressure in the Innsbruck 22, to make it 7-3.

RCI stretched their lead halfway through the first half, after some quick thinking and a quick line-out allowed Bailey to crash over from 5 metres out. Patrick added the extras to make it 14-3.

As the game headed towards half-time however, RCI indiscipline allowed Regensburg up the field and they scored their first try from short range off the back of a strong maul. This meant that as the halftime bagpipes sounded it stood at 14-10.

The second half was a tight and tactical period of the match – with the emphasis on territory – both teams exchange penalty goals, making it 17-13 with 20 minutes on the clock.

The pivotal part of the game came here – Soso received a yellow card for a tired high tackle on the Regensburg winger and it seemed the visitors could be on the front foot – but an excellent try started by a line break from Jakob and finished off 3 phases later by Bailey was vital. RCI would win the 10 minutes sin bin period 7-0, and the game had swung. Regensburg received 2 yellow cards in the space of a minute and RCI were able to capitalise. Man of the Match Taine first getting the bonus point score after some NBA style work from Jawad, and then Sadegh completing the scoring with a try from a set play.

In truth, the scoreline made this seem a far more comfortable afternoon than in fact it was. A tough, at times scrappy, but at times of high-quality to start the season.
